‘Facing north from Khardung La pass - the highest motorable road in the world and gateway to the Nubra Valley. Sitting at an elevation of 5,359m (18,379ft), it is not recommended to stick around for too long given the dramatic incline of the road getting you there, and the risk of altitude sickness that will surely ruin your day, and perhaps your life if it hits you at a moment of essential concentration on one of the countless hair-pin bends that creates the road ahead. There was time enough for a quick photo though, for which I was blessed with an unlikely clear day, allowing for vision all through the valley and to the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas beyond.’
