‘Rishikesh has long been renowned as the spiritual capital of the world. Its placement along the river Ganges attracts thousands of pilgrims from throughout India to its many temples that line the riverbanks and the hills beyond. As I walked along the streets paralleling the river, avoiding monkey’s and the newly opportunistic touters targeting the influx of westerners looking for their spiritual retreats and yoga certificates, I noticed this woman sitting alone in prayer upon the marble courtyard of one of the temples.’
